Over twenty Olympic medallists, coaches and further global sports figures have put their names to a statement demanding a stop to the capital punishment of a boxing champion and instructor, who is facing execution in Iran.

Growing Worldwide Condemnation

Amid rising international outrage over the country's increasing application of capital punishment as a tool of suppression, the forcefully phrased letter censures the authorities's decision to confirm the capital punishment of Mohammad Javad Vafaei Sani.

The boxer, thirty, from Mashhad in north-east Iran, was detained for taking part in countrywide demonstrations in two thousand nineteen and accused of aiding an resistance movement. He has endured half a decade in incarceration, where he has been abused and kept in seclusion.
