Ex- Doctor Charged with Assault Charges Against Thirty-Eight Patients
Prosecutors have stated that a former physician stands accused of committing assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were patients.
The Grave Charges
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous sexual offences – including some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.
A deputy chief CPS official commented, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, meticulously examining the evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
The Police Inquiry
The charges follow what police called a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
Breakdown of Charges
Prosecutors said the 45 charges comprise:
- 15 counts of assault.
- Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
- Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- One count of attempted penetrative assault.
