Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - stated they have shot down incoming projectiles in their air space.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with notable success and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.

It said debris landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
