Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”

The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD released surveillance images Monday of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims according to reports.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday about halfway between MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.

“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate during the current season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in March and was expected to be an important component of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present throughout the season while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he attends every game. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with New York in March.
