Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his position following another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the club's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” Slot remarked.

“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points naturally but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Talks with The Board

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Issues and Player Response

The manager expressed regret over recurring failings from his team in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”

He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with performances like these.”

He finished, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always battle.”

“We will attempt to help the side back to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
