The Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Versus the Dodgers
Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.
Canada's MLB team reached their initial Fall Classic since the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Trailing three runs to one, Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh, guiding the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series victory in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for our team, Toronto, Canada," commented Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "What an incredible feeling."
The veteran has now hit 23 playoff homers, ranking him third on the list trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else in the world that I want up in that moment besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked manager John Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the early in the series, remain the one club that has never reached in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it hurts" in the wake of his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but commended their work throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. Sadly that we ended up on the losing end of this one," he continued.
Toronto won the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
