The former Liverpool manager says a return to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club is an option. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-year spell that included continental glory and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, currently occupies roles as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the Premier League in the previous campaign, though countless followers who revere Klopp would embrace the notion of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he explained to his interviewer: “I declared I will never coach a different club in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, that means I might decide later on, who knows. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I can just see what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about what circumstances would need to occur to tempt his return to management, he revealed he isn't eager to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip press conferences multiple times weekly or constant media duties each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out alongside the squad talking freely, that’s nice. Success was frequent thus frequently a very good mood at the club. I still have Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, praising him due to the changes that won the league in the previous season. The team has suffered four in a row in every contest after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the suggestion of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. The French striker, superb talent. It’s a really good balanced team. No need for concern about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in in 2020, and the effect on Liverpool. Jota died tragically in a road accident alongside his brother in July.
“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment missing him. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. It was an incredible shock for all the boys too. No one within the club would cite it as an excuse but it is the situation. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Handling this individually is difficult. Impossible.”
