The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Thriller That Blends Silent Hill with Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several fascinating future games, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a girl containing several personalities inside her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four distinct personas, all possessing unique fears and drives. These souls can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a creepy hospital, though other scenes depict the main character exploring a desolate church.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that appear minor to other people can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that concept — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The central mechanic involves controlling whichever soul surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will switch involuntarily as you play. During exploration, each soul's fears become exaggerated and attack the girl one after another. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with nurses all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the waiting room have enormous flowers where their heads should be. Flowers are an ever-present theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four souls claims that the body belongs to them," notes a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player believes a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, since every entity can lie or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The last one remaining could be a fake. In any case, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
