The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
