Trump Welcomes Relatives of Attacked Guard Soldiers to the White House
Former President Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their honor.
Presidential Offer
The president said he’s talked about a White House visit for the loved ones of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president addressed reporters. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Response
Community members assembled over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to aid law enforcement in DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“She was the individual that teachers hoped for. She behaved with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the press. “She was sweet, caring and always ready to help others.”
Service plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Steps and Policy Adjustments
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The event prompted the government to suspend asylum applications and cease issuing visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Condition of Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader the governor mentioned on television.
Attorney general Bondi told a news show that she aimed to speak to his relatives.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with honor, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had courage,” the governor informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
